This set of incenses is a collection for a year and a day of ritual! Samain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas and Mabon incenses are pacaged into 1/2 oz. vials to use in celebrations and rituals of the eight pagan Sabbats, or just to enjoy during that time of the seasons.

Samhain is the pagan Sabbat otherwise known as Halloween, All Saints Day, Dia de Los Muertos, celebrated on October 31st to November 11th, depending on the tradition. This incense is to honor the dearly departed as well as to protect the incarnate living from any bogies or phookas may have made it across while the Veil Between the Worlds is thin.

Many people also use this incense as a funeral incense. It is sweet, sultry, and mysterious. Samhain incense is attractive to spirits; discarnate and noncarnate forms of beings, but its nature is to feed and propitiate these entities, thus preserving a bond and a boundary between the worlds. Samhain incense is powerfully activating to the Third eye, so it can be used to make us more sensitive to messages and communications from the Beyond. Most people find its smell to be comforting and fascinating, as Death is Itself. For this reason, Samhain incense is helpful to resolve and honor the grief process, no matter what time of year it may come to visit.

Yule is the pagan and secular holiday also known as Christmas and Winter Solstice, usually on or about December 21st. This incense is bright, cool and crisp with evergreen tree resins, frankincense, gold and myrrh (where gold is orange peel in this case!) and redolent with holiday baking spices.

Burn Yule incense to bring a holiday cheer to your household. People will appreciate a departure from the fakey smells of Christmas candles and other artificial holiday synthetic fragrances. The resins have a lingering scent that is very pleasant and will build up if you use it on a daily basis. I hope Santa Claus can smell it for miles away!

Imbolc, or Imbolg, is the pagan Sabbat on or about February 2nd. This holiday is also known as Brigid, dedicated to the Goddess Brigid, and in other places, we call this holiday Candelaria or Candlemas, or Ground Hog's Day. Use this incense to accentuate any ceremony or ritual to honor this day, and to celebrate the growing light.

My Imbolc incense is not like any other recipe you may come across. I wanted it to come out white in color, since Imbolc is often celebrated with white and milky colors for the birthing of lambs. I wanted it to smell bright and fresh for the newness of the Sun and the growing light. I also wanted it to have just a touch of the smell of burning candles, since this is a Candle holiday. I include the flowers of Rosemary, since there are very few other flowers at this time of year. This holiday is often observed with blessings, consecrations and initiations, so Imbolc incense could be used for any of these purposes no matter what time of year.

Ostara incense is created for the Spring Equinox, also known as Eostar, usually on or about March 21st or 22nd. This incense is bright, sweet and floral, and would be appropriate for any celebration of this time of year.

Ostara is also a Goddess of Spring who appears in the form of a white rabbit on Eostar. She is the original Easter Bunny! A sighting of Ostara means that Spring is here, and the fertility of what is now in the egg is in the offing.Possibilities abound, and now is the time to put as many eggs in the basket as you can find. It is my intention that Ostara incense encapsulates the hope and promise of this time of year.

Beltane is the Pagan Sabbat holiday on or about May 1st. Also called May Day and Walpurgis Night (the eve of May) Beltane is usually celebrated as the sexual initiation of the Goddess and the God. Use Beltane incense for any rituals or ceremonies around this time of year, and to bring the fullness of Spring into your life.

My Beltane incense is a refinement of Cunningham's formula. This version also adds a nod to the belief that May Day is the night that the Faeries return to the surface world from the Underworld. It would therefor be a year round incense for working with the Fae, and for blessing the way for any astral travel into the Faery Realms. Beltane incense is bright, sweet, innocently seductive, romantic, herb-y, spicy, and more than just a little wild and mischievous.

Litha incense is made for the Summer Solstice, a pagan Sabbat on or about June 21st. This holiday is also commonly called Midsummers Day. Use Litha incense for any ritual observance of this day and time of year.

Litha incense is a tribute to the Sun and all things hot and fiery. This holiday is often about purification by fire, so Litha incense could also be used to purify any person or object regardless of the time of year. It is active in principle and bright in aroma. Midsummer's Day is often celebrated as the peak of power of the Oak King, after which the Holly King will rule the waning phase of the solar year.

Lammas, or Lughnasadh, is the pagan Sabbat on or about August 1st. It is most often celebrated as a first harvest holiday, focusing on harvest of grains.

Lammas incense is created to be both celebratory and offeratory. I have tried to give it the smell of fresh bread and roasting grains along with the brightness of the waning sun, since this is the first holiday after High Summer, the Summer Solstice. Use this incense for any ritual or celebration for this time of year, and to honor the Celtic solar god Lugh, who rules the weather and harvest of this time of year. Also if you brew beer, this incense would be an appropriate blessing to accompany your art.

Mabon is the recent pagan appellation for the Autumnal Equinox, usually September 21st or 22nd. This blend honors the elder Celtic king, Mabon, and includes herbs and resins suitable for offeratory purposes and for any celebration of this time of year.

Mabon incense smells like Autumn, with Oaks and mosses. Since Mabon is the time when day and night are equal, Mabon incense could be used not only for this holiday, but for any time that balance or clear and fair judgment is needed. Mabon is an Elder King, so I use this holiday and this incense to honor the wisdom and contributions of our living mature and elder community leaders.

Natural Magick incenses are composed of high quality resins, herbs, and sometimes essential oils. They are ritually hand ground on appropriate days of the week for Planetary influences and on the best day of the Moon's cycle for Lunar powers. Unlike most powder incenses, I use no "base" or filler to alter or dilute the powers of the active ingredients.

These magick incenses are made to be burned on incense charcoals. Light the charcoal with match or lighter, set it in a flameproof incense burner or on a brick, rock or bowl of sand, pebbles, or salt. Allow the charcoal to light completely and then sprinkle on a pinch the incense. Add more pinches as desired. See below for more detailed instructions.

How to burn incense & resins:

Natural Magick Shop incenses are ground in a mortar from resins, woods, herbs and spices. They have nothing in them which burns on its own, hence the need for a self-burning charcoal.

First you need something safe to burn your incense in. The charcoals used to burn resins get very hot. Use a burner made for resin incense, with a metal screen, a cast iron cauldron, or you can use a glass or ceramic bowl IF you put a layer of sand, marbles, aquarium pebbles or rocks to insulate glass or ceramic from the heat of the charcoal.

I often break the charcoals in half because they burn for nearly an hour. Light the charcoal with a lighter or match, and when it starts to spark, put it in the burner.

It is best to let the whole charcoal begin to glow before adding any incense. Then sprinkle on the incense as desired, a little bit at a time. If you add too much or cover the charcoal completely, you might put out the charcoal. Also, most natural resin incenses smell better when burned in small amounts at a time.

Keep away from kids and pets. Let the charcoal burn down completely, and make sure it's all ash before throwing out because it could set trash on fire. Advice from experience!

I don't clean the burner after every use. When there is a collection of ash in the burner, pour contents into strainer over the sink and rinse with water. Let dry, and put rocks back in burner. (If you use sand you'll just have to dump the whole mess and use fresh sand).

Store unused charcoal in a zip-lock bag or in a jar, because they won't burn well if they collect humidity from the air.

Enjoy!"
