Waning Quarter Moon in Cancer

Waning Cardinal Square - Cancer Moon & Libra Sun
The waning moon is associated with decrease and the ending of a cycle. During this period of time what began at the new moon and came to a head at the full moon is being released. Since this moon cycle began in Virgo and highlighted the Virgo-Pisces axis we have been restructuring our health and work routines, anything that we have to coordinate on a daily level. With this square we have also crossed over from the mutable signs and are in a cardinal period, indicating that while this restructuring is ending it is fueling a greater change.
This difference between the period of waning and release triggered by the waning moon, and the kicking into gear of the seasonal shift that takes place in the cardinal signs highlights the difference in the monthly moon cycle and the yearly sun cycle of the zodiac. Ultimately, astrology works off of cycles and patterns. The interplay of each planet's dance. It is the yearly ecliptic path of the Sun that draws the 12 signs of the zodiac but the Moon works within that, giving us a way to process and integrate the full spectrum of planetary activity that is taking place and being experienced on the individual level through the house placements in our natal chart.
Since it is the spinning of the Earth that places our rising sign when we are born, the interplay of the cycles of the Earth, Moon, and Sun as they dance through the galaxy forms the primary foundation of how we experience the world, and how we energetically react with it. This of course shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that has to wake up in the morning, sleep at night, and take varying preparations based on the weather and other changes that the seasons bring. In many ways we have become disconnected from the overarching cycle of planting, growth, harvest, and death but we are not immune to them.
With the Sun in Libra and the Moon in Cancer a light is shining on our desire for balance, peace, and beauty while our heart seeks comfort, care, and the familiarity of our families. While these energies do have a certain amount of harmony they still end up in a power struggle. Afterall, we often have to fight for balance and even peace. They are not just presented to us, especially when we stay in our comfort zone. Both are cardinal energies so they push and drive us to change our circumstance but they don’t exactly see eye to eye on their end goal. Sometimes peace means stepping away from the family that we were born into and holding them at arm's length. Sometimes what's comfortable isn’t balanced.
Tuesday September 24th - Waning Quarter
- Mercury in Virgo trine Uranus in Taurus
- Vesta in Virgo opposed Saturn rx in Pisces
- Nodes Station Retrograde
As the waning moon highlights the difference between comfort and balance our earthly existence faces an earth trine between Mercury in Virgo and Uranus in Taurus. With a trine these placements are harmonized, they work together to bring forth earthly experience. The energy will flow even without our efforts, and often despite them. Mercury is tracing the footsteps of the Sun, bringing awareness and understanding to what we have recently experienced. Uranus is chaotic and revolutionary, unpredictable in action but not in theme. What it wants is freedom, and in Taurus we want financial freedom and the freedom to choose our own values. The freedom to enjoy life.
This is not something that can be dictated or hammered into us to be experienced in one way, we want the opportunity to be individuals. Mercury is in its domicile in Virgo, giving it more power in the situation. We know how much work it is to stay alive, how much planning and effort it is just to feed and home ourselves, and yearn to break free from the structures that keep us from enjoyment. When so many people are living paycheck to paycheck any disruption in the cycle has the potential to bring devastation. We can be at the mercy of these disruptions, or maybe we institute a plan that has the potential to radically change the struggle.
Vesta in Virgo hits an opposition to Saturn retrograde in Pisces, highlighting the imbalance between the duty of our daily routine and the amorphous nature of the structures that should be rewarding discipline. Saturn gets a bad rap for requiring restrictions but it can also be very rewarding when the planet's terms are met. However, with Saturn swimming in the ethereal waters of Pisces these seem intangible and unrealized. What purpose is duty when there is no reward?
We abide by the structures imposed on us by governing bodies under the belief that they are applied to all fairly. When there is no promise of prosperity we struggle with the torches we carry. Under today’s astrology this realization pushes us to rebel against the status quo. With the toggle of the nodes retrograde it is up to us to create the destiny we deserve.
