Hathor is celebrated as one of the most recognized deities in ancient Egypt, associated with love, joy, fertility, motherhood, intoxication, music, and dance. As consort of the god Horus (representing the embodiment of the living pharaoh), Hathor's name translates to "House of Horus" or "Womb of Horus," emphasizing her mother goddess characteristics. The ancient Egyptians viewed Hathor as a solar and sky deity, deeming her the Celestial, representing the cycle of life, death, and rebirth in ancient Egypt. For daily life in ancient Egypt, cattle were essential to their lives for subsistence and as draft animals.

Hathor is often depicted as a beautiful woman with cow ears. She is often adorned with a crown of horns and a solar disk and a turquoise sheath dress, reflecting her traits as a solar and sky goddess.. She is also portrayed as a cow-headed woman and as a cow wearing the horns and solar disk crown.

Archaeological evidence of this beloved goddess dates back to the Predynastic Era (circa 5500-3100 BCE). Her image graces the temple reliefs and column capitals throughout Egypt, ranging from the Nubian temples in Upper Egypt, to Memphis in Lower Egypt, to the mountains of the Sinai Peninsula. There's even evidence of her presence in Lebanon. However, the Ptolemaic temple of Dendera (located near the Qena Bend region) serves as her primary sanctuary.

While Hathor is known as a loving, nurturing deity, the ancient Egyptians recognized her fiery, destructive aspect as the lion goddess, Sekhmet. The sun god Ra transformed Hathor into Sekhmet to wreak havoc against humanity's disregard of the divine order. Regretting the violence, Ra pacified Sekhmet by offering her red-dyed beer, disguised as blood. The intoxicating effects of the beer transformed Sekhmet into the peaceful goddess Hathor. This origin story was the inspiration for the Festival of Drunkenness, performed at the Temple of Dendera.

Gold is sacred to this solar goddess. In honor of her solar associations, Hathor oil is made on the Sunday just before the Full Moon.

Natural Magick deity oils are made with reverence and research to be pleasing devotional blends for the gods and goddesses they are named for. I research legend and lore, and try to use oils of plants that grew in the lands where the deity originated or rules. The Natural Magick process of using planetary and elemental influences, correspondence, and high quality ingredients is especially appropriate for honoring the gods and bringing their qualities into our lives.

Anoint yourself to attune to these deities, or pour into offering bowls or aromatherapy lamps, or anoint statues or fetish objects. I love to give them to priests or priestesses who run open circles or invoke our patron gods and goddesses.

These oils are in beautiful round 1/2 ounce bottles, blended in 100% fractionated coconut oil, so with any care they should last a very long time. They are priced according to the ingredients requested by the gods.
